The best way to find yourself, is to lose yourself in the service of others. ~ Ghandi
My passion for volunteerism started with CentreAide (the United Way in Quebec). After a series of assaults on campus at McGill University, a number of my university buddies and I started a service for walking female students from the library back to their residences during the evenings after studying was done. This was covered on the front page of a local newspaper and led to the creation of an Annual Furniture Sale for students living near or on campus. Montrealers generously donated truckloads of items; everything from toasters to persian rugs. Cash-strapped students eagerly snapped up the unbelievable bargains and we donated all proceeds to CentrAide (over $2,500 each year).
Since then, I have volunteered with many organizations including: the Rotary Club, Million Dollar Smiles, Toronto Police Youth in Policing Initiative, The Halton Youth in Action Program, Tropicana Community Services, JVS, ACCESS, CASIP, JCA, CCAH, BBPA, Best Buddies, Inroads, Road Map for Success, United Way of Toronto, and many others...
My daughters think that it is "way cool" to hear that their Dad's committment to volunteering with the United Way Toronto would be acknowledged through the CHFI "Without You There Would Be No Way" radio campaign.
